This week’s roundup is up at One New Duck.

The Weekly MILP (Moms in the Legal Profession) Roundup is the brainchild of Saramel (retired). It is hosted on a rotating basis at the PT-LawMom, A New Duck and Butterflyfish blogs and is usually posted no later than Monday.

The New York Times has an editorial today pondering whether it’s time to overhaul the legal profession, from curriculum reform to lowering tuition to lowering salaries at BigLaw firms to a more “realistic” market rate. I’m all for lower law school tuition and more practical, useful curriculum, such as that offered by Susan Cartier-Liebel at her newSolo Practice University. However, it will be interesting to see if things really do change or whether it will continue to be business as usual for firms and law schools alike as the economy rebounds.

Happy Hanukkah, Merry Christmas, Merry Festivus (did I get that right, Zuska?), Happy Kwanzaa and peaceful last two weeks of December to all of you.

This week in the MILPosphere:

First off, go give 3L Wannabe a little love and support. She’s having a rough time and could use hearing from others who have been there.

The beautiful Kim, LawMom #1, finished school with cancer AND kids and came out kicking. Check her out!

Butterflyfish is sick to her stomach… and not because of the cookies

GoogieBaba made me sick to my stomach (it was that last part, girl… geez, every day?!?!)

CM properly celebrated the end of law school on a warm beach with drink in one hand and her husband holding the other. Congratulations girl!

ProtoAttorney is going to have her head surgically removed.

Amanda finished finals, found out she is having a boy (child #2 while in law school!) and is ready to kick back and relax a bit

Lag Liv has the CUTEST picture of Landon and their dog this week (and I, too, think Love Actually is such an awesome movie. Why can’t men get that?!?!)

And New Duck has a video of her super-cute little girl toddling!

Dakota is also newly graduated and enjoying time home with the wife and kids (her son is soooo freaking cute with his two front teeth missing!!!)

And I thought I was tired! R could use a week of straight rest.

Andrea is enjoying the ritual and spiritual thoughtfulness of Hanukkah (I love that you guys are doing both!)

BA is overworked (Yes, it is normal and your first commenter is right, girl, the harder you work the more they will give you!)

Cee and the Naughty Nutcracker and, because I LOVE these pictures, Mommy kissing Santa Claus.

TrannyHead made me shop more. Damn her! But, hell, those pics of Sumo are so priceless!

I am so pissed. Chapin went to see his immigration attorney tonight. You know, the one who took $5,000 of our money as a retainer and ended up filing a four-page “brief” in appeal of his citizenship denial. The last bill we got said that we had roughly $900 left in our account and she said we could file a supplementary brief if we wanted. We chose to wait to see what USCIS said. Well now, a year later, the USCIS came back and denied his appeal. They apparently think he has three children, one of which has the same name his two last names who he “concealed” which means he has bad moral character! Yes, someone at the local USCIS office is a FREAKING MORON!!!!! ARGH. And I don’t think we can appeal the appeal. Especially not after already spending $4,100. And, oh yeah, we’re divorced so Ms. Opinionated doesn’t have a say anymore. ;) Chapin is worried that making waves will just piss USCIS off further.

Anyway, what pisses me off is not that his citizenship was denied (even though they are fucking stupid because they never even asked him during his interview about the issue upon which he is being denied and he was 100% truthful in his petition). What makes me furious is the damn immigration attorney. From the day she filed (by hand with only a handwritten receipt to prove filing), she has NEVER provided us with documents. She always swears she has mailed a copy of everything, but we never got a copy of the filing, nor a copy of the receipt, nor a copy of the USCIS denial letter despite requesting them numerous times. Every time we would call she would insist they must have been “lost in the mail”. And yet somehow her bills always made it to us…

Anyway, Chapin is beside himself and I tend to agree with him. This time last year she was saying we still had $900. Now she’s saying that, if anything, we owe her. For what?!?! We haven’t spoken to her since this time last year. AND I did all the transcription on her interview with Chapin and brought photocopies of all of the records up for her to our initial interview. The woman is on crack if she thinks we owe her. The problem I have is that, although I know I have the retainer agreement somewhere, it is probably in Chapin’s storage unit and will take some time to find.

My question for you is do we (and by we of course I mean him with me doing all the work – ugh!) file a claim with the bar against her for refusing to return the $900, failing to provide us with copies of any of the documents she produced for us and proof of filing and basically for being a mean and nasty bitch? Grrrr. What would you do?

The last time I hosted the Roundup, it was #69 (tee-hee) so it is appropriate that I host it again during this week of the Great Thanksgiving Green Bean Roundup. A lot of hawt bloggers (all MILFs, several MILPs) have written posts about having messy, delicious, uncomfortable, inconvenient, fun, and sneaky green beans with their boyfriends, husbands, wives, lovers and friends. You know how I like my green beans, so this was right up my alley. If you’d like to read all of the posts, head over to Trannyhead’s for the links.

And now from the rest of the MILPosphere:

ProtoAttorney is going balls-to-the-wall (Go Girl!!)

GoogieBaba probably had the most authentic Thanksgiving of anyone

Andrea shares the joys of life in litigation

Certifiable is recovering from surgery in style

Shelley suffered at the mercy of the evil airlines this week

Cee reflects on all her blessings

Magic Cookie discusses billable hour-free law firms

LagLiv tells us her Thanksgiving tale

Dakota discusses the way law school shifts the dynamics in a family

After a few weeks balancing Mommyhood with a busy Biglaw gig, BA takes time to reflect on the important things.

LEO hit the 36-week mark

Citations sees why legal secretaries and paralegals have such frustrating jobs

Butterflyfish is rocking out to get herself through exams

Over at a New Duck, the turkeys are playing

PDSurrogate spent the week on a sexual contact case. It’s not green beans, but it’s spicy.

I’ve been loving the soft heather jersey t-shirt I got from Matt Logelin’s Spreadshirt site so much that I decided to make some t-shirts of my own. You can check out My Shop here or through the link at left to find law student mom or dad, lawyer/mom, paralegal, legal secretary and single mom/dad/parent t-shirts.
