About Me
I am a divorced single mom working full-time in the legal department of a large corporation while raising an active six year-old (Pumpkinhead). I started this blog to chronicle my journeys attending law school part-time at night but ended up getting sick, getting divorced and deciding to put my kid and my health first for now. Liberal, proud Episcopalian, feminist, pro-immigrant, pro-choice, anti-war, all about social justice. My blog covers dating and sexuality as a single parent, life working full-time and going to law school at night (previously) while raising a child, and my struggles with peripheral neuropathy following gastric bypass and with fibromyalgia. This blog contains personal commentary (sometimes too much!) and in no way reflects the views of my employer or my law school.
You can e-mail me at ptlawmom at g mail.

After meeting my best friend in law school, we took turns working/being at home. We both have agreed that sometimes you just can’t do a gazillion things at the same time and do them well. Sooooo, both of us dropped out. Dropped out of the legal profession, that is. It’s like we couldn’t get in the rhythm of chasing the carrot (partner track) and doing everything else. Now we blog….and homeschool. Don’t be afraid. Don’t let the homeschool bit scare you off. Come for a visit.

If you are interested in how things are in the UK please come and have a look at the blog I have just started.
http://mummyinlaw.blogspot.com/
I would be interested to know whether in the US having a child earlier will (off the record) virtually prohibit a mother from making partner at her firm. This is a big problem in the UK.

Wow I never knew there was so much going on in the legal mummy world! I live in the UK and have a 3 year old daughter. I work for a legal organisation and am in my final year (part time) of lawschool. At my work the only other mother just left – reading blogs such as yours is a breath of fresh air and so inspiring.

Hello, I am in my forth semester of college with the intentions of going to law school in the future. I am 29 years old and married to a very supportive husband. We have two children, ages 9 & 6. I decided to go to school a little later once they became a little more self reliant. I pretty much did things backward in my life, being raised in the more economically challenged side of town; I did not have any good role models to which would encourage me toward an educational path. Therefore, I had to learn a lot about life and myself before I finally realized I deserved the right to follow my dream and to have an education as much as anybody else. I wanted to thank you for putting up this web-site so that parents with a dream to go to law school can relate to one another with their personal challenges and solutions to help encourage and help each other follow our desires. I would love to keep in touch to stay encouraged during the trialsome times and in return offer support as well. Thanks Again for taking into consideration all the parents who want to follow their dreams…

Hi, I came across your blog a while back. I’m a single parent working full-time too! I, however, am only in my undergrad for Legal Studies at UCF. My goal is to make it to law school and more likely than not, I too, will be going to a part-time program. I really enjoy your blog, whenever possible, please check mine out at:

Thanks again!

Hey! I’m not a single mom, but I am a married mom who went to law school part time at night and I, too, am on a break. And I, too, am thinking about not going back. I just ran across your blog and plan to spend more time reading and catching up. Looking forward to getting to know you better!

I stumbled across your blog and it has been like a breath of fresh air. I work as a paralegal and I am the mother of a two year old. I am also applying to law school currently, so it is very helpful to read over your entries and be able to have some sense of what is in store. Thanks for blogging!

Would like to know how you get along with training iListen. I as many others, have abandoned it. Please read the reviews posted on the Apple Store Web Site. And our blog at inetsynch.podbean.com for additional reviews of iListen.
Best of luck with your studies and health issues.

I had a horrible feeling I wrote “meet” instead of “met”. I thought about it before I went to bed, and I couldn’t sleep! I will have to become a better editor.

Hey, I’m an Episcopalian too! Thanks for stopping by my blog. I can’t believe you work full time, have a family and go to law school. I know we just meet, but I’m so impressed with you.

I went to law school pt with a full-time job and 2 young children 15 years ago. I won’t post more, but email me if you want to.
Main advice: You may be able to achieve a lot and help your family and yourself, which is great and very rewarding and fulfilling. But remember to take every second you can for your family. You will never get that time back. Work will come. You will enjoy it more if you keep putting your family first (never easy, but do it anyway). It’s a long road, pace yourself.
