Mr. V proposed. Woo-hoo!!!! Actually, Mr. V and Pumpkinhead proposed with “rock candy“. Shocked the hell out of me. Not that I didn’t think we’d get married someday. But the fact that he did it tonight seriously stunned me. And, of course, I said yes. I have adored this man since the very first moment we met and have never had a doubt that he is The One. Never, ever felt anything close with Chapin. I am so happy!

My blog has NOT ended. I have been working a bazillion hours in the legal department of a large corporation, meeting myself coming and going, plus getting engaged and then spending a week with my fiance’s extended family as his sister got married. Geez. Will post again soon!

I did tell Chapin. He wanted to know if I was happy and if I thought Mr. V would be good to Pumpkinhead. I said yes on both counts and he seemed satisfied with that answer.

Pumpkinhead brought me a Tootsie Roll wrapper and told me he had candy for me. I told him I didn’t want it, but thanks anyway. He said, “But Mommy, it’s rock candy!” I said, “huh?” and Mr. V said, “Honey, he really wants to give you the candy.” I grabbed the wrapper thinking it was one of Pumpkinhead’s jokes. Nope, the ring was inside. Then Mr. V dropped to one knee and proposed. It was super sweet and romantic. I think I may have stopped breathing for a moment!

Meg, I had started talking to him right before I came to visit you. I knew on our very first date that he was The One. It was like a lightning strike. You met him so you know. Love him!!!

  18. anon says:

What’s up with the rock candy? Congrats..when is the date? How exciting. I am sure the engagement party planning is already underway! Congrats again.

  19. Meg says:

Wow. I am…stunned. This is a complete 180 from you sitting in my living room back in…March? Craziness.

  20. Joshiesmom says:

!!!!!!!!Congratulations!!!!!!!!! I am all goose-bumpy and so happy for you! Look forward to reading all about the wedding plans and honeymoon ;-) (Well, maybe you don’t have to share ALL about the honeymoon, LOL!)

  21. Simon says:

    Congrats!
    Great news.

  22. ptlawmom says:

Thanks LL. Chapin is still very active in Pumpkinhead’s life. Unless he decides to return to Guatemala for life (and maybe not even then), I can’t ever imagine a scenario where he’d want to give up his parental rights. That said, Mr. V is going to make an amazing Stepdad!! :-)

  23. LL says:

    Congrats!! That’s fantastic news!

(On child support – the other way I think it terminates in your state is if Mr. V formally adopts Pumpkinhead and Pumpkinhead takes his name. I have a few friends who went this route as children, mostly b/c their dads no longer had any role in their lives and the moms weren’t getting the child support they were supposed to get anyway.)

  24. OMG! Congrats! Such wonderful news. So happy for you. :-D

  25. Beachgirl says:

Congrats! I’m so happy for you.

  26. ptlawmom says:

According to an article I found, and this is what I understood, Chapin’s obligation only terminates if we remarry *each other*. (Phew!)

    Termination of Child Support

Child support will terminate on the marriage of the child. If the child subsequently divorces the child support remains terminated – the child is emancipated. If the marriage is annulled, the child support picks up again. An annulment is like no marriage at all.

Child support will terminate if the child’s disabilities (minority) are removed for general purposes.

Child support will terminate on the death of the child or on the death of the obligor. As to the obligor, this is what the statute says at 154.006. However, Fanning v. Fanning, 828 S.W.2d 135 – a 1992 Waco Court of Appeals case states that the statute impliedly authorizes the court to make provision for child support as an obligation of the obligor’s estate. You see an express provision in this regard in decrees of divorce – that the obligation survives the death of the obligor. Also note, that many decrees requires the obligor to carry life insurance to secure payment of the child support obligation.

Child support will terminate at the 18th birthday of the child if the child is not enrolled in high-school. If the child is enrolled, then it will terminate upon graduation of the child.

Child support terminates on the marriage or remarriage of the obligor and obligee. This means — if the obligor and obligee marry one another or remarry one another then the child support terminates. If the obligee marries someone else, or if the obligor marries someone else – the child support does not terminate.

  27. ptlawmom says:

Oh geez. Will it affect child support? I hadn’t even thought about that but I thought that only alimony was affected by remarriage. My understanding that child support is tied to the child and the parent’s income, not the other parent. At least in the state I live, Chapin has to pay 20% of his income for Pumpkinhead until 18… unless you know something I don’t? (Made my heart skip a beat for a second!)

  28. Googie Baba says:

I’m so happy for you and your family! Can’t wait to hear all about the wedding.

  29. Z says:

    congrats!
how will this affect child support, though?
I hope everything works out well for you!
