My mother and her best artsy friend are in the house making memory rings right now. Basically they have a large gold ring that you tie ribbons to and you decorate the ribbons with beads, medallions, etc., then tie single-hole-punched index cards or photos to the end of the ribbon. You can hang it on a hook in your house or on a door handle and review the memories whenever the mood strikes. I think they look neat.
I’m not very crafty. The closest I ever got was making handmade hanging plant holders with my roommate in New Mexico one year. I enjoy crafting, just am not very artistically inclined. However, I did make t-shirts this year. Should you like them and want to buy one, Spreadshirt is having a Cyber Monday sale all week long with 25% off any purchase of $30 or more. Coupon codes: USD$: CYBER58, CAD$: CADCYBER58.
Do any of you have ideas for crafts that people will actually use? I’ve looked around and it seems to all be the same old stuff. Jars of mix for a soup, cake or something. Homemade candles. Baking. I want something unique!
I am home sick today with a nasty cold/sinus infection. Went to the neurologist as planned, however, and left with more meds and another scheduled EMG. The Cymbalta has stopped working and I’ve been having a lot of pain and numbness/tingling in my ring and pinky fingers on both sides and in my feet (keep tripping because I cannot feel my toes). I told him how much I hated the six months I was on Topamax because I was a complete moron. He wants to try me on a kissing cousin of Topamax called Zonegran that should work for the pain without the cognitive side effects. It also has weight loss side effects – bonus.
We shall see. Oh, and he told me to go back down to 60mg of Cymbalta (versus the 90 I have been on). So I will be on 60mg Cymbalta and 200mg Zonisamide (generic form of Zonegran) for small fiber neuropathy brought on by vitamin deficiencies related to my 2001 Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass.
I have to go back in January for a drug check and to do the nasty EMG test again (needles in your muscles/nerves to shock them and test for damage). Last time I had it I was miserable. This time they will be doing my arms as well (ack!). Oh well, something to worry about closer to the time I suppose.
I have taken some nasal spray, a few cold pills and drank a ton of hot tea and water and now I am heading back to bed for nap #2 of the day. My whole body hurts and I can barely move. Blue Eyes will not be thrilled because I wasn’t at work to receive some packages he was waiting on with camera supplies but, oh well, since he gave me this cold he will have to get over it.
He has tomorrow off so he can always come and pick them up.
My mother sent me out to hunt down a Nintendo DS for my nephew on Black Friday. I finally realized everyone was pretty much selling it for the same price ($129) and just ponied up her money for it. Then today I found out that Amazon is selling a limited edition Pink Ribbon version for only $99 and free shipping with $5 from each sale going to the Susan B. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Had I known, I might have tried to get that one and cover it with a “manly” blue or black case so he wouldn’t know the difference.
LOL. Anyway, for those of you looking for a Nintendo deal, I wanted to put out the word.
EDITED: Apparently they only had a limited number because it now shows a $129 price. However, I know it was $99 because I ordered one for my neighbor this morning (she wanted to use my free two-day Prime shipping) and the order still reflects the $99 price (just checked). Sorry guys.
Okay, all you parents of biracial children, here’s a stumper for you. Birth certificates. How do you list your child’s ethnicity? I never thought about it and just put Caucasian for Pumpkinhead. But my brother, who has a much more visibly biracial child, apparently put Caucasian as well. He said that the state (Maryland) required that they put the father’s ethnicity but that sounds like a big load of crap to me. Pumpkinhead was born in the District of Columbia and no one said diddly about our designation even with the very obviously Hispanic Daddy standing right there (and Pumpkinhead and he are twins except for complexion and hair color. So have I screwed up? Do I fix this? How would you handle these issues? Am I over-thinking this (or, more likely, using it as one more reason to procrastinate on my paper)?
A picture of the beauties (if it wasn’t obvious, Pumpkinhead is the one with the Pumpkin-colored hair):

P.S. My nephew’s mother is African American. My brother is the palest white boy in the world.
