Blue Eyes has spent the evening in my bed. I spent the evening at work. Sigh…

Half the city is still without electricity. Today I lent a friend of a friend of a friend a generator to keep him and his two kids from burning to a crisp while they wait for their power to be restored. A tree fell on the transformer near their house so they will be waiting longer than most, I fear. I also leased my house out for six months today to a couple who lost everything and is going to rebuild. Made me feel good and made my mother feel even better because now she doesn’t have to keep helping me with the mortgage payment each month. :)

My boss is out of town with his wife, daughter, and newborn infant. Of course he decided to call us at 4 p.m. today for a conference call that stretched on until almost 7 p.m. and a list of tasks for tomorrow that may keep me there late again. I had a project to work on for school so I ended up staying at the office until 10 p.m. finishing that (yay Internet!). I wasn’t the only one. Many coworkers are hanging out at the office until the city curfew kicks in to take advantage of the A/C and Internet.

I left work around 10 and was really shocked at how dark the city was. I thought most neighborhoods around me had power but I realized as I drove that it’s about two streets at a time. My other house, close to a main thoroughfare, has power, but just two blocks back it is pitch black all the way over to the next major street! And the neighborhoods along the highway are sooooo silent. Ike had a sense of humor, though. The most-targeted billboards seem to be the ones for the Live! Nude! Girls! LOL. Another crazy thing is that there was about 15 cars lined up outside the donut shop when I was driving to work around 9 a.m. this morning and then, on my way home, I noticed that a) it was still open (!!) and b) there were almost as many cars in line. Weird. That said, it appeared to be the ONLY thing open in that area so I guess that makes sense. We have a local Chinese takeout and a neighborhood pizza joint that are cleaning up on takeout orders right now because all the real restaurants are understaffed.

Okay, off to bed with a cute dog and a cute man. :)
