Well Pumpkinhead’s Stanford-Binet (sp?) and Wechsler results are in.

1) Superior/Genius-level scores on many of the verbal and auditory parts.
2) “Executive Functioning” deficiency
3) High anger, anxiety and aggression indicators Bummer

So apparently this means that he is eligible for services through the school district. My mother and I went to talk to the school counselor and assistant principal. They said he will be eligible for gifted/talented pull-out and also for a behavior management plan that will help offer him a rigid structure for his day. We also talked about blocking his day into four segments so he can have “success” in at least part of his day rather than just getting negative reports each day. The psychiatrist said that we need to be extremely structured at home, “preview” what is coming, and be consistent. She said he needs to feel in control and the only way to accomplish that is through a strict routine.

They recommend that we do a year of this and then see if his executive functioning has risen to match his intelligence level. If not, we may have to do some additional neuropsych testing and consider a formal ADHD diagnosis and possible meds (bleech!). I’m going to work my ass off on structure to try to avoid that.
