She has cancer and a heart condition, and it was a convenient time for her "helpers" to do the work for her. I have other friends who leave a tree up year-round, changing the decorations with the seasons. I think you should put it up if you want to, especially since you will be traveling and busy a lot during the usual decorating time. It's not like anyone but your family will see it, and it is only a week ahead of when a lot of people (myself included) decorate for the holidays. No Christmas until after Thanksgiving. But I often put my tree up the day after. Unfortunately, T-day falls early this year, so we will be waiting another week. I turn my head away when I see early decorations, even the ones in stores, change the channel when I hear a Christmas song. It's not that I don't love Christmas; to the contrary, I find that exposing myself to it too soon takes some of the magic away. (For the same reason, I refuse to watch my favorite films more than once a year, no matter how often they come on cable.) At this moment, I'm itching to put on my Christmas music.
