November 16th, 2007  Posted at   Blogging, Law School

Thank you, Susan Cartier-Liebel, for letting me know that my blog is this week’s featured selection on the ABA Blawg Directory. I hope the new readers enjoy my blog.

My discussion typically centers on issues that are important to me as a mother, such as health care, as well as law school, immigration and life as an evening law student. I don’t focus exclusively on any one thing but hopefully there is something for everyone. I also help host the weekly Mothers in Law School (MILS) Roundup, which you will find every week at either my site or A Little Fish in Law School. In addition, I’m currently hosting a Mothers in the Legal Field (MILF) Book Club (yes, I know what that means, but we’re a funny/naughty bunch of ladies).

I also work at a law firm and have for many years. I sometimes discuss my work generally, but rarely talk about any specifics (waving at “The Firm”).    Please enjoy the blog and leave me some comments or drop me an e-mail at ptlawmom at gmail dot com. Thanks!

DISCLAIMER: One of the things I am struggling with right now is illness. If you have subscribed to my blog and are reading this private post, please do so knowing it has nothing to do with law school and is part of my personal journal. Thank you.

Came home yesterday to a call from LabCorp. That’s never a good call. Returned the call this morning and was told that they exposed my blood to light accidentally (yep, vampire here) and needed to re-draw the blood. Of course the affected test was the Thiamin level (i.e., the only one where I really need a result!) Sigh…

So I raced over to the doctor’s office before work because they said they could get me “right in”. Of course, that meant a half-hour wait. Then she popped the vein in my left arm. I have a huge lump and lots of nice bruising. The right arm was only a little bit better. She kept pulling it out and pushing it back in and I swear I was just about to kick her when, hooray, she stopped. Unfortunately she’s the only one there. I did try to get on her good, blood-protecting side by explaining why I need these results so badly. I am hopeful that she won’t screw this up again. I want my results, damn it!

For Christmas of 2003, Pumpkinhead was an infant and we decided to forego a tree. In 2004, we were visiting Chapin’s parents in his homeland so, again, no tree. In 2005, it was our first year in our new house and we put a tree up maybe a week before Christmas (slackers!). Last year I think we did it a bit earlier maybe the first weekend in December?) and Pumpkinhead would sit in the living room watching the lights and lay under the tree reading books (he also got into EVERYTHING we put under there and would constantly “rearrange” the decorations – grr!). I have tons of cute pics, but I can’t share them because of the evil pervs still trolling my blog for cute baby pictures!

Anyway, this year is going to be crazy. My exams don’t finish until mid-December, at which point it seems kind of late to enjoy a tree (especially for all the work it takes!) We’ll be away in DC for Thanksgiving so no tree time then. I’m kind of thinking about doing the tree this weekend. Do you think that’s too early? Crazy!? I think this may be the first year he gets really, truly excited about the season and I want to enjoy it with him. He may even be old enough to take to Christmas Eve services.

I saw this at True Mom Confessions and thought it was a really cute idea.

When we’re about to pull out the Christmas decorations I like to hide a toy in one of the stockings. My son thinks he missed something from the last year and he gets really excited. I just love to see the look on his face.
