I was talking to one of my friends on Friday who works for a solo practitioner. She told me he is constantly getting harassing letters from his insurer asking him to fill out forms about his employees, prove certain things or get a physical to remain eligible. Today the LA Times has a piece about a major California insurer who ties employee bonuses to meeting monthly policy cancellation goals. Shady Health Insurance Practices
Yawn
I took a 4-hour nap today.
Not sure how that happened, but I must have needed it. The birthday party was high energy and fun. We got home around 1:30 and I fell asleep on the couch around 2:30. Chapin got home at 3:45, at which point I moved upstairs to bed. Next thing I knew, it was 6:45 p.m.!! Now it’s 8:30 and I feel just as exhausted as I did at 2:30. Tough noogies. I have GOT to get focused and work on my Contracts outline. Fortunately, Pumpkinhead was beat and came up at 7:30 begging to go to sleep. He’s now bathed, read to, and tucked in and I’m sitting in my bed with my laptop and books. I am hoping to put in at least two hours before Chapin comes up to bed. Hope this exhaustion clears up soon!!

I thought I didn’t want that (and I’m still not sure), but she thinks that it’s important to do 2-3 years at a large firm so that you can transition in-house or to other firms. She said she has friends who have left our large firm and gone part-time on the plaintiff side. They still make 6 figures, but work much less. The in-house side is also more friendly. They tend to do less litigation (because they farm it out) and do more on the ERISA/benefits/HR side, which interests me. Read the rest of this entry »
